Name of your website?HEALTHYCITIZENS
Your name?
Richard Perlman
Your Location (city, etc)
Chevy Chase
Please give us a short summary of your website?
I research post World War II involuntary human experiomentation, in particular programs concerning the cerebral cortex. I argue the government was aware of the likelihood of obesity, diabetes, mental health epidemics decades ago. They were also aware of the liklihood of terrorist attacks. e.g. sarin, anthrax etc. Some of the anti-terrorism policies evolved from the programs I address. e.g.monitoring, interrogation, nonlethal weapons
What inspired you to launch your own website?
The programs I write about I researched at National Security Archives and the libraries at the National Institute of Health. while I lived in the Washington DC. Area. I placed advertisements in The Hill concerning my research.
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
2000. http://healthycitizens.com.
How did you decide on a name for your website?
Just spontaneous intellectual combustion.
What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?
My research is honest and original. There are documents such as the Pardon of Ischii, the letter from the President of Harvard to Vannevar Bush of the Carnegie not available any where else on the Internet.
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
My goal as an activist is exposing programs that have injured large numbers of people. My personal goal as an individual is health and freedom.
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
I have not been successful. Anytime you try to influence policy it is a long tem investment.
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
I would be more successful attracting and educating people. I would be able address more issues. For instance, I believe I can expose research concerning the effects of radiation. Nonlethal weapons can cause significant injur.y
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
Unless I had volunteers, the answer is no.
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
Often my emails are not received. I address programs that injure epople and I have been injured.
What has been your biggest challenge?
People. These programs would not exist if people asked questions and were committed to protecting each other's freedoms and well being.
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
Maybe the ads I ran in The Hill 200-2003. They have sinced increased my rates greatlyu and I can no longre afford to advertise there.
How has running your website differed from your expectations?
I thought Congress would be more responsive.I thought more people would be interested.
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
8 years. I will keep at it for as long as it takes to achieve success.
Why do you have a website and a blog?
The blog is easier to update.
What is your website address?
