A Corrupt System

By Jamin Greensbury at 12/21/07 16:45
Many things in the United States have free services to the public. But if you are terribly sick, free services are just a ruined dream. First of all, the medical system in the U.S. is horribly corrupt. They charge way too much for simple procedures. All they do is make money off you for needing help. It should not be that way. Literally everywhere else in the world offers medical care for free. The U.S. just has guys who line their pockets with money. Need a crucial surgery for you to live? That'll cost about $1 million please. If you don't have the money, then there's really no hope for you.

Just today I saw an article saying how a young woman died from not receiving the transplant she needed. She would have had a great chance of living, if the health insurance company hadn't screwed her over. This is what happened. The company decides to help the poor girl, but then they stab her in the back at the last second. She could have been okay until the company decided they didn't want to pay for her and her death meant nothing to them. Now the company has what's coming to them in a lawsuit.

My eyes were opened to this issue when I watched Michael Moore's documentary "Sicko." He focused on the how this system is truly corrupt. Moore interviewed many people from out of the country. When presented with the information on the U.S. health system, they all thought it was absurd, even the doctors. Also, Moore documented how corrupt the health insurance agencies are. Basically, it seemed to me that only about 1 out of 50 people get approved for their medical needs. Shouldn't everyone be getting approved? Like I said before, the big executives of those companies are just looking to make more money, even if it results in a few deaths.

Just thinking about this makes me want to pack up and move out of this country. Canada doesn't have anything even near this. Maybe I'll just move to some South American country like Uruguay. I'm sure there are no corrupt health systems down there. I just don't want to ever have a surgery and have to sell everything I've ever owned just to get it.
