One of the items that were all the rage for Christmas and holiday shopping this year was the GPS systems. Very useful for finding your way to uncharted areas in your mind. Well, I got a Garmin this year for a gift, and it has worked very efficiently. I even named it Tiffany because of the female voice telling me to go right or left. Giving your GPS a name helps in many ways. When you're driving by yourself, you can talk to your "Tiffany" just like Tom Hanks talked to Wilson in 'Castaway'. Giving a name also lets you vent your anger onto this machine, sort of like "I Don't Want to go THAT way Tiffany!!"
These devices also let you appreciate what is really around you when driving. You could be driving your daily route to work when you notice that there is a whole mess of streets just to the left of you. I noticed that the very first day I had one. Driving down a large hill on my normal route into town, I noticed that there was almost a whole neighborhood just beyond the trees that lined the road.
And another thing that is cool is how you can find addresses quicker than you thought you could. Well, you have to have a general direction in where your going, but the device finds the street you are looking for before you're even done typing.
Another reason to get one is that you can get a great one for only around $100. That may seem pricy to some and the fact that you don't need a GPS doesn't help it either. But the sheer fact that this makes an awesome gift counters all the negatives.
There is just one flaw my cousin told me about. He doesn't like the fact that there is someone watching you somewhere when you have your GPS activated. Someone will know where you are at all times. Hmmm.....
