A piece of art is worth a thousand words. But a curse is worth 1,069 words. The people of Carlisle, Cumbria (In the United Kingdom) at least know that a curse is worth that many. At the turn of the millenium, a piece of art was erected. It was a stone with a 1,069 word curse written on it. Many Christian groups have spoken out against it, saying it will cause supernatural grief. The curse itself was written in the 16th century and its primary purpose was to ward off bandits and pillagers. But now the curse is believed to be the cause of many disasters in Carlisle. The townspeople believe the curse caused many things. Things such as a spreading of foot-and-mouth disease in 2001, a large flood this past January, and even the soccer team getting relegated from the football league. Now the council has voted to get rid of the stone by smashing it to tiny little pieces. They strongly believe that its the curse stone causing the disasters of biblical proportions.
