If you do much searching for Amalgam on the web you'll think there is some debate over whether it is safe or not. An associate recently took her son to the dentist for his first two fillings and requested that Amalgam not be used. The dentist was a bit shocked and her insurance company would only pay for the cost of Amalgam.
To brush up on the so-called controversy I went to a source that should be 100% in support of Amalgam as a 100% safe substance to put in your teeth. If you are not familar with Amalgam it is a mixture of metals of which almost half is mercury.
The source I went to was the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services; National Institutes of Health. I popped the world Amalgam in the search box on their home page.
After reading many of the results I learned two things:
1) They will not come out and say that it is unsafe and pretty much declare that it is safe.
2) That having Amalgams in your teeth will increase mercury levels in your body.
Since mercury is a heavy metal that tends to collect in your body, offers no benefits to you and at a certain level causes health problems and a higher level, dealth, I'm not sure why I would do anything that increases mercury levels in my body when there are alternatives.
The U.S. Government doesn't have to declare Amalgams to be unsafe. There is simply no reason to increase your blood, body, and brain mercury levels at the dentists office.
